West Brom fans on Twitter are loving Dwight Gayle after his fifth league goal

West Brom fans on Twitter were delighted with Dwight Gayle’s goal in the 2-0 win over Millwall that saw the Baggies climb to third place in the Championship.

The game was balanced on a knife edge for the first half and much of the second, with both sides having chances to break the deadlock.

However, it wasn’t until the 68th minute that the home side went ahead at the Hawthorns. The goal came from a corner as centre-back Ahmed Hegazi’s header was saved onto the crossbar brilliantly by Millwall keeper Ben Amos, only for the ball to fall straight into the path of the waiting Gayle.

It was a typical poachers goal and was Gayle’s fifth in just eight Championship appearances so far this season. Just eight minutes later, left-wing back Kieran Gibbs doubled the Baggies’ lead, but it is the front three of Harvey Barnes, Jay Rodriguez and Gayle that are really impressing at the moment.

FM19: A first look at the new look Football Manager 2019

It’s that time of year again. Summer is fizzling out, Halloween is beginning to rear its ugly head and Christmas shall be coming along shortly afterwards. Of course, you don’t care a jot about any of that though – why would you? After all, Football Manager 2019 is on its way, with an official release date of November 2nd.This year the game is set to arrive with a bang. With the branding having undergone a major aesthetic overhaul, the game is coming back sexier than ever. However, FM has had more than a mere paint job since the last instalment was released. The latest edition promises a raft of new features and a more realistic and immersive experienced than ever before. Your non-playing and increasingly exasperated loved ones will be delighted.Dig out your suits and dust off your chalkboards, FM fans. Let’s dive into the most exciting new features that the next version of the world’s best video game has to offer…

Looking good

Football Manager 2019 boasts a sleek, clean, user-friendly interface – or at least one as close to any of those things such a monumentally detailed game can get.Â

The whole package is more vibrant and engaging than ever before. Now, why don’t you just take a moment to feast your eyes on all those lovely stats and graphs?

Training overhaul

The squad training schedule screen looks far more intuitive this time around which should encourage more FM players to actually engage with the training system (rather than palming it all off to a beleaguered assistant again).

There can be no greater reward as a manager than seeing the training ground graft pay off big time when Saturday comes around. Hopefully, if the new training system lives up to its promise, very soon we can all be enjoying that feeling whilst still safely ensconced indoors.

Das ist Fußball

New licenses are always a delightful addition to any instalment of FM and this year we can look forward to a biggie. For the first time ever, FM 19 will feature a fully licensed Bundesliga.Â

36 German sides will have fully accurate kits and logos and player faces. Just when you thought leading Hertha Berlin to European glory couldn’t get any better, it just got real.

Channel your inner Guardiola…or Allardyce

Philosophies have been a thing in real football for a long time now. From the Dutch-born concept of Total Football to Jurgen Klopp’s lauded Gegenpress, innovative philosophies have evolved and shaped the game we know and love. Now they can become a part of your FM journey too.

So, whether you want to go Route One or dazzle with some intricate Tiki-Taka business, philosophies will be central to the revamped tactics system in the game. More control and manipulation than ever before over the way our teams play is what we all want, and this looks to be a big step in the right direction.

It’s a brave new world

We’ve saved perhaps the biggest new feature (to have been revealed so far) for last. That’s right, VAR is coming to the world of FM.Â

Imagine it now: the opposition score a last minute goal that steals your hard-earned glory just when you thought you could taste it. Then it goes to VAR…and is overturned and justice is done. Or vice versa, which let’s face it, is infinitely more likely.

So, there’s five of the new features that are promised to come with FM 19. Many more will be announced in the meantime between now and November, but in terms of current excitement levels you can colour us here at Football FanCast positively giddy. Happy managing, folks.

Football Manager 2019 will be fully released on November 2nd. Fans who pre-purchase the PC or Mac version of FM19 from a SEGA approved digital retailer (or pre-order from a participating physical retailer) will receive a 10% discount.

Furthermore, those who pre-purchase through a SEGA approved digital retailer will be able to kick-off their managerial careers early through a fully-playable Beta version, which will be available roughly two weeks prior to the official street date (single player careers started in the Beta will continue into the full game).

Chelsea must ship out Cesc Fabregas and bring in Piotr Zielinski

It’s been a superb start to the season for Chelsea, who under Maurizio Sarri have begun the season unbeaten and most recently came back from 1-0 to beat Liverpool in the EFL Cup this week.

Under the Italian, Chelsea have surprised many with their new attacking style of football, a far cry from the solid defensive shape that Antonio Conte deployed during his tenure in west London.

Sarri loves to have a team of mobile and dynamic players and with that in mind, Cesc Fabregas’ career at Chelsea could well be about to come to an end. According to Mundo Deportivo via Sports Mole, Fabregas has become a target for AC Milan who could make a move for the midfielder in January.

The former Arsenal man doesn’t have much left in the tank and if he is to leave the club, Chelsea should bring in Napoli midfielder, Piotr Zielinski.

The Breakdown

The 31-year-old is no longer regarded as a first choice player for Sarri and has so far only made two appearances this season – disregarding his Community Shield start.

While a January move for Zielinski may seem fairly unlikely, the Poland international has the potential to be a world class midfielder.

Well known by Sarri, with the Italian even likening him to Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Zielinski is quickly emerging as one of the best talents in Europe and looks destined to make a big money move.

Valued at just £28.8 million, bringing Zielinski to London would give the Blues one of the best midfields not just the Premier League but also Europe.

Tottenham fans bash Pochettino’s fixture complaints

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to some comments from Mauricio Pochettino, and they’re not happy with the pre-Barcelona excuses.

Tottenham have recovered from their early season wobble, but there are still some worrying signs for the North Londoners.

Pochettino lost three games in charge of Spurs for the first team with defeats to Watford, Inter Milan and Liverpool, and the injuries are stacking up.

Hugo Lloris is fit again, but Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen will all miss Wednesday night’s epic clash against Barcelona.

Tottenham of course signed zero players this summer, and Pochettino doesn’t sound too happy about the size of his squad.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”302569″ player=”12034″ title=”The Last Time Man Utd Started A Season So Badly”]

“The circumstances this season are so tough,” said Pochettino.

“Look what is going to happen in the Carabao Cup. We are going to play Monday in Wembley against Manchester City and then we must play on Wednesday or Thursday, and then we must play Saturday and Tuesday in the Champions League.

“That is completely unfair for a team that wants to win some titles.”

While the manager does have a point, the same could be said for most of the big teams around Europe, so fans aren’t happy with the comments.

Whether it was all Daniel Levy, all Pochettino or a bit of both that decided not to sign anyone this summer is anyone’s guess, but fans are not impressed by their manager’s verdict.

Everton fans react to Barkley’s wonderful display

[ad_pod ]

Ross Barkley put in undoubtedly his best performance in a Chelsea shirt this weekend, and plenty of Everton fans are wondering if it was a mistake to sell the youngster.

Chelsea fired themselves to the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win at Southampton on Sunday, and the Blues now sit level with Liverpool and Manchester City on 20 points.

While Eden Hazard has undoubtedly been their star of the show, Barkley put in a wonderful display in the 3-0 win, and Everton fans are starting to miss their former talisman.

The young midfielder has struggled for game time since joining Chelsea last January, but the arrival of Maurizio Sarri has seen his minutes increase.

He picked up a goal and an assist on Sunday, and he seems tailor made for that advanced midfield role in Sarri’s 4-3-3.

Everton meanwhile are struggling to find the right balance in their midfield, as Tom Davies continues to take loads of criticism for his performances.

Marco Silva has made a huge difference to the Toffees’ attack, but a player like Barkley could be the missing piece in midfield.

Everton join the hunt for Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsey

[ad_pod ]

Everton are the latest Premier League club to join the chase for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey, according to The Sun.

What’s the word?

Arsenal are on a roll after winning their last nine matches across all competitions prior to the international break but there is still plenty of work to be done in North London, with major changes on the horizon at the Emirates Stadium.

Wales international Aaron Ramsey looks extremely likely to leave in 2019 as his contract expires at the end of the campaign, while Arsenal could look to cash-in during the January transfer window in order to earn a fee for his services.

According to The Sun, the race for Ramsey’s signature is heating up as Everton are plotting an ambitious move and could offer the 27-year-old a wage of up to £150k-a-week in order to persuade him to move to Goodison Park.

Good news for Arsenal?

If Ramsey were to remain in the Premier League, then Arsenal would surely prefer to see their long-serving midfielder join a club like Everton rather than moving to unite with one of the Gunners’ direct rivals for Champions League football.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”305269″ player=”12034″ title=”Are Emery’s Arsenal Silently Gunning For The Title”]

While a move to Everton could still come back to haunt Arsenal further down the line, it would be more comparable to Jack Wilshere’s move to West Ham in the summer rather than Alexis Sanchez’s departure to join Manchester United in January.

However, it remains to be seen whether Ramsey would consider joining Everton when a host of top clubs are linked with his services and he may feel that he is better served by sealing a move to a side that has been more competitive in recent years.

Liverpool fans react as Napoli boss fires bizarre criticism

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to some bizarre criticism from a Champions League rival, as the Napoli president took a swipe at the city of Liverpool.

Liverpool have gotten off to a brilliant start to this season, but the defeat in Naples was undoubtedly the low point of the season so far.

The Reds were outplayed, outclassed and outfought as Lorenzo Insigne scored a late winner for their group C rivals, and the Italians are clearly confident ahead of their trip to Merseyside later in the competition.

“You’d have to be crazy not to be happy in Naples,” Napoli club president Aurelio De Laurentiis said about his players.

“These kids (the players) have to wake up, train and they’re done for the day. We pay them to have fun.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”310054″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Fake Madrid & Ross Barkley Emulates… David Ngog”]

“Can you imagine waking up every day in Liverpool? You only have the house of the Beatles, Abbey Road… In Paris, there’s loads of things to see, but the climate isn’t great like in Naples.”

Needless to say, Liverpool fans haven’t taken too kindly to what is a rather bizarre dig at their city, and the atmosphere at Anfield will be electric when Napoli come to town on December 11.

The Reds will be hoping to pick up six points from their next two fixtures as they face group underdogs Red Star Belgrade both home and away, and the visit of Napoli on matchday six could well decide the fate of group C.

Arsenal lead chase for Ipswich full-back Dylan Crowe

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal are in pole position to sign Ipswich Town’s highly-rated full-back Dylan Crowe, according to The Mirror.

What’s the word?

Unai Emery significantly bolstered his Arsenal squad in the summer by signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Bernd Leno but he has his sights on further additions in January.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal lead Manchester United in the hunt for Ipswich Town full-back Dylan Crowe – a player who is yet to make his first-team debut with the Championship side but attracted attention with his performances for England’s U17 side at the European Championships in the summer.

Bundesliga duo Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also in the hunt for the teenager but it is Emery’s side who are currently ranked as the most likely to secure his signature.

What can he offer?

Arsenal bolstered their depth at right-back by signing veteran Lichtsteiner in the summer on a free transfer after he left Juventus, and the Switzerland international provides competition for Hector Bellerin in the first-team.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”305269″ player=”12034″ title=”Are Emery’s Arsenal Silently Gunning For The Title”]

However, the 34-year-old is not a long-term option for the Gunners in this position and further depth is required beyond the aforementioned pair with Carl Jenkinson suffering a massive fall from grace in recent seasons.

An ideal move would see Arsenal sign Crowe in January before sending him out on loan until the end of the season to a side that can offer senior action and then reassessing the situation next summer, where Lichtsteiner’s one-year deal expires.

Revealed: Majority of West Bromwich Albion fans want Morrison to start against Hull

Considering how tight it is at the top of the Championship, West Bromwich Albion need to get back to winning ways.

Only four points separate first from sixth, and at the moment Darren Moore’s side sit fifth in the standings.

The Baggies were all the rage recently thanks to the prolific attacking trio of Dwight Gayle, Jay Rodriguez and Harvey Barnes.

However, the club have now failed to win their last three outings – losing two and drawing one.

On Saturday the team will travel to the KCOM Stadium to take on Hull City and it may be time for Moore to consider some changes.

James Morrison played in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers having played only two full matches twice previously, and both of those were in the EFL Cup.

The experienced player has struggled for fitness, but he did a decent job as a deep-lying midfielder.

This led us to ask you if he should be included in the first XI against Hull this weekend, and an overwhelming majority of fans want him to keep his place.

Why young English players moving abroad improves chances of winning major tournament

It’s been 52 years since England won the World Cup in 1966, and, since then, the long wait to secure another major cup has been painful to say the least.

Penalty shootout after penalty shootout, world-class talent after world-class talent, manager after manager, from jubilation to commiseration – the fans have had to endure it all.

It’s not even like there hasn’t been opportunities. At the turn of the century, the nation was blessed with one of the greatest squads ever (on paper, at least); the likes of Terry, Carragher, King, A Cole, Neville, Beckham, Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, J Cole, Rooney and Owen all donned the three lions. Some form of success should have been guaranteed.

Yet, under the stewardship of a Swede who hardly warrants mention, they faltered. And again under brolly wielding McClaren. And again under flop Fabio. And then under Roy Hodgson.

Now it’s Gareth Southgate’s turn, and, to be fair, he’s done a far better job than most of his predecessors. Just this year the nation were led on their most exciting World Cup run in some time, and it seems, following this, faith has once again been restored in the England setup.

One thing that strikes us as a particularly positive aspect of Southgate’s management style is his willingness to give young talents an opportunity in the first-team.

Most recently we have seen the likes of Jadon Sancho, who’s made a very successful transition into German football, turn out for Southgate’s squad in the UEFA Nations League. And it’s great news for England fans.

More encouragement should be given to young players to step outside of their comfort zone and seek opportunities abroad. Indeed, some of the best players to ever grace the game have needed to come from far and wide to play their football so why shouldn’t we?

Here are two very good reasons why English prospects moving abroad spells success for the national team…

Chemistry

This is something Lampard, Gerrard and Ferdinand all touched upon in their interview discussing why the ‘golden generation failed’.

Each player theorised that, because they were competing with each other week in and week out, it was difficult to develop as a group.

In addition, they discussed the ‘tribal’ nature of the dressing room, suggesting that successful integration was always a  problem because players would typically gravitate towards their club mates. This, of course, is a major issue as teamwork is such a fundamental element in football.

If English footballers played abroad, there would be a far slimmer chance of this happening.

Euro Education

A continental style of football is, more often than not, purer and more effective in the modern game than the traditional English approach.

You need only look at the tiki-taka football of managers like Pep Guardiola, who earned his stripes in Spain and Germany before heading over to dominate the Premier League, to understand how time in Europe could help young players learn a lot.

It’s an educational experience for young players to be emerged in that kind of environment, and for England to have a group of prospects, each educated in the art of total football, as opposed to only a couple – who typically play in the same team – it can only be a good thing.
