The Lowdown: Striker needed

With the departures of Andy Carroll and Yoshinori Muto, the St James’ Park club look awfully light in attack.

They only have Callum Wilson, Joelinton and Dwight Gayle to call upon as current centre-forward options (Transfermarkt), and so another striker is certainly needed before the window closes.

The Latest: Diaz offered

As per Jeunes Footeux, Newcastle have been offered the opportunity to sign Diaz and are interested in signing the Real Madrid marksman.

Although the 28-year-old is not their priority at the moment, they are keeping tabs on him as the transfer window progresses.

The Verdict: Avoid

While Steve Bruce’s squad is certainly short up front, they should avoid signing Diaz and instead move on to other targets.

The Champions League winner, who was praised by his teammate Luke Modric back in November, has not really lived up to the hype since signing for Real Madrid, managing just one goal in 22 games across all competitions last season (Transfermarkt).

Reportedly earning around £150,000 per week at the Bernabeu as well, those are the kind of wages which Newcastle simply should not be paying (and aren’t) for any player, let alone Diaz.

The Saints’ summer transfer window started off slow, but they have been busy more recently as Ralph Hasenhuttl and co prepare for the new campaign.

Romain Perraud (southamptonfc.com), Danyl Simeu (chelseafc.com), Valentino Livramento, Armando Broja and Adam Armstrong have all made the move to St. Mary’s Stadium, and now the Saints are seemingly eyeing more new faces.

The Latest: Saints eye Oxlade-Chamberlain

As per this latest report, Hasenhuttl and co are interested in re-signing £16.2m-valued Oxlade-Chamberlain (Transfermarkt).

Newcastle United are also said to be in pursuit of the versatile midfielder.

The Verdict: Top target

Oxlade-Chamberlain has come a long way since scoring ten goals and providing nine assists in 43 games for the club (Transfermarkt). His move to Arsenal was followed by a transfer to Liverpool, where he has now won the Premier League and the Champions League.

He has also picked up 35 England caps, while he was even called “outstanding” by Reds manager Jurgen Klopp (thisisanfield.com).

However, last term, he made just 17 appearances for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions and so one would think he could be open to a move if it meant more playing time.

At just 27 years of age, he has plenty of football left ahead of him – a return to his first club could rejuvenate him.

Saleem Altaf, the PCB official who was sacked by the board only to be reinstated, will continue as director-special projects after Pakistan’s Supreme Court upheld the Lahore High Court’s order granting him temporary relief pending the resolution on the writ filed by his lawyers. The PCB had moved the Supreme Court against the lower court’s decision.During Tuesday’s hearing, Altaf’s legal counsel, Naeem Bokhari, contended that he was unjustly dismissed since having been appointed by Pakistan’s president Pervez Musharraf, who is also the patron of the board, he could only be removed the him. Bokhari also said that the termination letter given by the PCB to Altaf did not contain Musharraf’s approval, and that his contract was valid till the 2011 World Cup.The PCB, represented by attorney general Malik Qayyum, maintained that since Altaf was appointed for a three-year term (from 2005) on a contractual basis, he could be fired any time.Altaf, 64, was sacked on June 12 for allegedly leaking sensitive information to the press, a charge he had denied. The board had allegedly recorded a number of conversations he had with journalists during his tenure, which were played back to him before his services were terminated. He was then temporarily reinstated on June 25.

Ipswich started their League One campaign with a draw at the weekend and followed that up with a disappointing defeat to League Two outfit Newport County in the League Cup.

After a raft of new arrivals, 14 to be precise, you could forgive Ipswich fans for going into this season full of excitement, expecting improvements upon last season. The ex-Hull forward only had 23 touches in his hour on the pitch, which was fewer than Tomas Holy’s 37 between the sticks. He also won one of his three duels, whilst losing possession of the ball nine times – per SofaScore – and this shows that he was unable to impose himself on the game.

Cook was let down by his new signing, with these statistics proving that Aluko had a shocker on his debut for the club. The winger failed to show his quality. You want your forwards to be active in the attack and be a constant threat to the opposition, which is the exact opposite of what Aluko was to Newport.

However, as mentioned previously, there is plenty of time left for him to come good at Portman Road. One game does not shape a player and this performance could motivate Aluko to come back stronger in the next one to prove his doubters wrong, but it is now a big call for Cook to make in regards to whether or not he picks him against Burton on Saturday.

أكد المدرب الجنوب إفريقي، بيتسو موسيماني، المدير الفني للنادي الأهلي، أهمية تطبيق تقنية الفيديو (VAR) في دور مجموعات دوري أبطال إفريقيا، وليس فقط من الأدوار الإقصائية، كما طالب بإلغاء قاعدة إلغاء الهدف خارج الأرض.

قاعدة الأهداف خارج الأرض هي واحدة من 3 طرق معتمدة من الفيفا لتحديد الفائز في المباراة في حالة التعادل، والباقي هو الوقت الإضافي وركلات الترجيح.

ويتم استخدامها في المباريات الذهاب والإياب، والتي يسيطر عليها نتيجة التعادل، وإذا استمر التعادل فإن الفريق الذي سيسجل أكبر عدد من الأهداف سيعد فائزًا، وقام الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم “يويفا”، بإلغاء قاعدة خارج الأرض، ويرغب موسيماني في إلغاء القاعدة مثل القارة الأوروبية.

وأضاف: “لا يُمكنك أن القول إنك تقدمت في النتيجة بهدف مقابل لا شيء، ثم يقوم فريق بركن الحافلة، ثم ترى اللاعبون يختلفون، هذا أمر غبي لكرة القدم الإفريقية”.

وواصل: “إلغاء تلك القاعدة سيساعد في فتح مساحات أكثر وجعل المباريات غير مملة، سنلعب جميعًا لأنه لن يكون هناك شيء مثل عندما ألعب في ملعبي ولدي فرصة إذا سجلت هدفًا بعيدًا”.

وتطرق موسيماني للحديث عن تقنية الفيديو، مؤكدًا بأنه سعيدًا باستخدامها في دوري أبطال إفريقيا، ولكنه يأمل أن تستخدم التقنية طوال المسابقة وليس فقط بعد دور المجموعات، وقال: “تقنية الفيديو تُساعد كثيرًا”.

وأكمل: “هل تعرف كم مرة تدخل حكم الفيديو ضدي؟ لقد ألغوا 3 أهداف ضدي في مباراة وفاق سطيف”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “عندما تنظرون إلى حكم الفيديو (VAR)، فهم على حق، لقد استفدت أيضًا من الـ(VAR)، لقد قام أحد لاعبي سطيف بخطأ والحكم بسبب الفيديو أعطاه بطاقة حمراء”.
