Thomas Odoyo, the Kenya allrounder, is wary of the favourites tag that his team carry into the World Twenty20 qualifiers, in Belfast next week, with the main prize of a place in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. Kenya, who are grouped with Netherlands and Canada, have been playing warm-up games in England which Odoyo said are providing “the real platform from where we can deliver our best performance.”All the same, the side were thrashed by a club team in Surrey during the week, although they bounced back to beat Guernsey the following day. But Odoyo said the pre-tournament matches are helping with acclimatisation: “Let’s not forget that we are coming from Africa where the weather is hot.”It is good to be considered as favourites but I have always preferred an underdog’s tag because I don’t want to carry avoidable pressure on my shoulders,” he added. “But it is good to know that people consider us a team to be reckoned with and I hope we come out with flying colours.”Kenya are seeded second behind hosts Ireland, but are expected to win owing to their additional international experience. They have nearly three times as many ODIs under their belts than the other competitors vying for the two, or most likely three, places up for grabs at next year’s World Twenty20 in England.The two finalists will automatically qualify, while the third place, to be decided by a play-off, is dependent on Zimbabwe Cricket ratifying a decision taken by its officials during ICC Annual Conference week, to step back from the tournament.Nevertheless, for all of Kenya’s superior number of ODIs, their experience of Twenty20s has been limited to four matches, two in the lead-up to the last World Twenty20, in South Africa last September, and two in the tournament itself. Since then they have been relying on getting hints and tips from watching other international sides on television.”Although we didn’t perform well [in South Africa], we learnt plenty of things,” Odoyo said. “It was a new format for all of us and since then we have followed and tried to learn from watching most of the Twenty20 matches that have been played across the globe.”They also learned the importance of mental toughness. “Since Twenty20 cricket is played at a fast pace, the mindset has to be sharp to cope with the proceedings and that’s where it can sometimes become mentally tiring.”Odoyo also highlighted the importance of this tournament for the development of the game in Kenya. “Every international tournament or match we play only helps Kenya cricket. While the team gets stronger and tougher, more youth get attracted to the sport that helps to increase the pool of players.”Steve Tikolo will lead a side which includes 11 players who participated in the World Twenty20 in South Africa.

وأكد النادي الأهلي على تمسكه بحقوقه الكاملة فيما يخص هذه الأزمة على وجه التحديد بعد محاولة اتحاد الكرة التنصل من الأزمة والتخلي عن مسؤولياته تجاه الأندية المصرية وإضاعة حقوقها.

Lots of Wolves fans have been slamming Stuart Attwell after a decision did not go their way at home against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

As per Tim Spiers, Bruno Lage’s side had a ‘massive’ shout for a potential penalty in the first half as Nelson Semedo looked to have been ‘barged’ onto the floor by Oliver Skipp after some ‘superb’ play by Adama Traore in the build-up.

Given that Spurs had taken the lead earlier on in the half through a penalty of their own, converted by Dele Alli, Attwell’s decision at the other end stung many of the Molineux faithful, with the home side going into half-time a goal down.

Of course, the decision was debatable, but if Lage’s side had got it in their favour, they would have had a great chance to bring the score level and so the half-time team talk may have been a little different.

A escalação usada pelo técnico teve Denis; Lugano, Lucão e Douglas; Buffarini, Wellington, Cícero, Lucas Fernandes, Shaylon e Edimar; Chavez. Bruno, Gilberto e Neilton, que já não faz parte dos planos de Ceni e procura um novo clube, entraram ao longo da movimentação. O goleiro Sidão atuou pelos juniores.

O posicionamento tático pode indicar que Rogério Ceni deve manter o esquema com três zagueiros, que chegou a dizer que não usaria a princípio, mas que adotou na derrota para o Cruzeiro no último domingo.

Quem participou dessa partida no fim de semana, não enfrentou o time sub-19 do clube na tarde desta terça-feira. A comissão técnica programou uma série de exercícios técnicos para eles.

O elenco terá folga nesta quarta-feira e se reapresenta na manhã de quinta. O time volta a entrar em campo na segunda-feira, contra o Avaí, às 20 horas (de Brasília), no Morumbi, buscando a primeira vitória no Campeonato Brasileiro.

Then again, ESPN-Star Sports, the official broadcaster, is unlikely to agree to an event with substitute teams like Bangladesh but seem willing to go ahead with the Sri Lanka option, he said.”The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is aware that the blast on Thursday in Islamabad, which killed around 60 people, has weakened their case significantly. And Sri Lanka has repeatedly said that they are prepared to host the tournament. So it all depends on Pakistan. They could even be offered the next edition of the tournament, if that is an acceptable solution,” the official said.In such a scenario, India’s position will be crucial as the BCCI has adopted a hardline stance on the issue, arguing that the tournament cannot be shifted from Pakistan on “flimsy grounds”. “The Indian board has stood by Pakistan even if it means that the tournament might be cancelled. But if Pakistan agrees to stand down from its current position, the BCCI should have no problems with that,” the official said.The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), meanwhile, said it was “deeply disappointed” by South Africa’s “hasty” pullout. “We are deeply disappointed and when a decision was to be made on Sunday we think South Africa made a hasty choice,” Shafqat Naghmi, the PCB’s chief operating officer, told AFP. “Now it’s up to the ICC to take a decision but I would say South Africa’s refusal will badly hurt the event. We will still do our best to save the event and host it on schedule.”Later on Friday, members of the ICC’s task force met to “discuss the feedback received from meetings with stakeholders from Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa” on the tournament. “That feedback was discussed and will now be considered by the ICC Board, which is scheduled to have its own teleconference on Sunday. Former Newcastle United star Steve Howey insists that Andy Carroll would be a superb signing for Burnley this summer.

The former Liverpool striker has left the Magpies on a free transfer and is now available to be snapped up for nothing.

Carroll had struggled for goals in the top-flight in recent seasons, both for Newcastle and West Ham United.

The ex-England international has scored just four goals in four seasons, netting three times in 2017/18 for the Hammers, and once for Newcastle last term.

In both 2018/19 and 2019/20, Carroll drew a blank – indeed, he has only ever hit double figures in a top-flight season once, back in 2010/11 – but Howey thinks that he would be a decent addition for Sean Dyche’s side as they look to add a new option into their strike force.

It remains to be seen, of course, what Burnley’s aims are this season but they may simply be looking to avoid relegation.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, he said: “I think for some managers, like a Burnley or something like that, with the football that they play, obviously they’ve got Barnes and Wood, I think he’d be a great one to come in, just to sling on for the last 15 or 20 minutes.”
