O Goytacaz já tem o seu camisa 9 para a disputa da Seletiva do Campeonato Carioca 2018. A diretoria alvianil acertou a contratação do atacante Márcio Carioca, que disputou a Série B1 pelo São Gonçalo e foi artilheiro da competição com 18 gols. Crystal Palace have reportedly received a boost in their pursuit of Rangers forward Joe Aribo ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

What’s the story?

According to All Nigeria Soccer, the 25-year-old has informed the Scottish champions that he is not interested in signing a new contract and is set to reject the club’s initial offer of fresh terms.

With Aribo’s current deal set to expire in the summer of 2023, Rangers may be tempted to offload the highly-rated star over the winter in order to secure a high price for their prized asset.

It was recently claimed that Premier League trio Brentford, Watford and Palace were all set to battle it out for his signature, meaning this latest revelation will be warmly welcomed south of the border.

Since Giovanni van Bronckhorst replaced Steve Gerrard in the Ibrox hot seat, Aribo has been a revelation, scoring as many goals in four games under the new manager as he did in his final 29 under Gerrard.

However, it now appears increasingly unlikely that the Nigeria international will extend his stay with the Glasgow giants, opening the door to an imminent exit.

Since his arrival at Rangers back in July 2019, Aribo has established himself as one of Scottish football’s most influential figures, scoring 22 goals and providing 19 assists in 118 appearances, claiming the league title along the way.

His exploits at club level have also earned him 12 caps for his national side and have led to several impressed onlookers lauding his ability on the pitch, with former Gers player Steven Thomson hailing him as “phenomenal”.

While Aribo has become renowned for his eye-catching dribbling ability, tackling and precise passing, Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha has continually displayed his ability to put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis.

The 29-year-old became the first Eagles’ player to bag 50 goals in the Premier League earlier in the campaign and hit a personal best tally of 11 last term, highlighting the pair’s potential as teammates.

Therefore, Patrick Vieira and co. must move for the £14,000-per-week Aribo in January, adding some much-needed firepower and creativity to the first-team squad.

Newcastle United are among four Premier League sides keen on SL Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, according to Portuguese publication Record (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown

Intriguingly, a Newcastle representative was in attendance at the Estadio da Luz on Friday night as Benfica took on Sporting Lisbon.

Nunez didn’t manage to find the net in that fixture, but he has scored 11 goals in 17 appearances so far this term, so it’s no surprise if Magpies scouts are impressed. Two of those goals came in a 3-0 Champions League group stage victory over Barcelona at the end of September.

Brighton and Hove Albion tried unsuccessfully to sign the £18million-rated Uruguayan last summer.

The latest

Newcastle, Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham United are named as the PL clubs who are determined to sign Nunez, via Sport Witness.

The player’s agent is currently holding talks with Benfica’s president Rui Costa regarding his future.

Nunez has a release clause of €150million (£127.6million), and it remains to be seen what kind of offer below that might bring Benfica to the table.

The verdict

What kind of forward would Newcastle be getting? Well, according to WhoScored, Nunez excels at creating chances for team-mates, dribbling (he has a particular penchant for cutting inside onto his right foot) and shooting from range.

He’s been described as an ‘incredible talent’ by sports journalist Maxi Angelo and could be a long-term source of goals for the Magpies, perhaps even the perfect depth to rotate in alongside Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Joelinton.

He should be affordable for Newcastle, but the challenge will be convincing him to join if the two Manchester clubs are also in pursuit, given their status as elite Champions League level clubs.

In other news, this trio struggled in the victory over Burnley.

Everton can form a scary duo in the January transfer window after being linked with a move for Derby County midfielder Jason Knight.

With the Rams currently in financial turmoil, it’s highly likely that Rafael Benitez’s charges could seal a bargain deal for the £5.4m-rated maestro if they can convince him to move to Merseyside.

Derby’s administrators recently revealed that they’re hoping to have completed the sale of the club by late January, although they’ve refused to rule out selling some of the most talented players in Wayne Rooney’s first-team squad over the winter window.

That raises the prospect of Knight departing Pride Park over the coming weeks, with the 20-year-old being one of Derby’s most promising prospects.

As a result, a host of Premier League clubs are believed to be circling for the Republic of Ireland international, including West Ham United, Wolves, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Leeds United, Burnley and Newcastle United, according to Football League World.

Benitez can form a scary duo

If Benitez can convince the highly-rated Knight to join his revolution at Everton, beating off the extensive competition for his signature, then the 61-year-old could form a scary duo in midfield.

Earlier this year, Manchester United legend Rooney dubbed the Derby academy graduate a “manager’s dream” who “gives everything,” and his presence in the Toffees’ engine room would be warmly welcomed.

Current Everton midfielder Allan has racked up more than 400 appearances throughout his career for club and country, with the 30-year-old enjoying success with Udinese, Napoli and Vasco da Gama before his switch to England.

The Brazil international has become renowned for his dribbling skills, tough tackling and positional intelligence throughout his career, assets which would compliment Knight perfectly.

After making his senior debut back in 2019, the 5 foot 6 dynamo has gone to score 11 goals and provide three assists in 94 appearances for the Midlands outfit, firmly establishing himself in the starting XI.

Knight’s surprising ability in the air, leadership qualities, ability to retain possession and youthful energy could see him strike up a formidable partnership alongside the experienced Allan.

Whether Everton follow up their apparent interest with a formal offer remains to be seen, but it’s a move that Benitez should carefully consider in the weeks ahead.
