Former Scotland defender Alan Hutton has reacted to a claim made by Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou regarding loan stars Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota. 

The lowdown: What’s been said…

The Hoops boss recently suggested that neither the 24-year-old defender on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, nor the 23-year-old attacker spending the season in Glasgow from Benfica, were concerned over their futures.

Both players are set to head back to their parent clubs at the end of the current campaign unless Celtic trigger the options to make their deals permanent.

Despite Postecoglou playing down the urgent need to address the situation, Hutton has suggested that the club need to act swiftly…

The latest: Resolution required

Speaking to Football Insider, the 37-year-old claimed that both Jota and Carter-Vickers would be considering what happens next in private.

Hutton stated: “You have to say the right things when you’re talking to the press and that sort of thing.

“Carter-Vickers and Jota will be saying the same things: ‘I love being here. I’ve loved my time here. I’m just concentrating on the next game.’

“That’s all footballers are programmed to say, the same stuff in interviews. That’s how it goes, but they’ll want their futures tied up as soon as possible. Whether it be Celtic or whether it be somebody else, somewhere else.

“They’ve had amazing seasons. Carter-Vickers has come up and made such a big difference, as has Jota. There’ll be other suitors watching from afar, I would have thought.

“But they’ll want a future sorted as soon as possible. Whether that be towards the end of the season, we’ll find out. Any player wants that security of having a contract.”

The verdict: Get it done

Whilst all parties would appear to be relaxed about the situation, there is nothing quite like having that assurance of a done deal.

That’s especially the case in this instance, as interest in Carter-Vickers from the Premier League has recently surfaced.

At a reported £6m fee for both Jota and the eight-cap USA international, Celtic should be desperate to secure the duo as permanent Hoops players beyond this season, particularly in light of a financial windfall following potential automatic qualification for the Champions League group stage.

Therefore, Hutton is right to call for urgency on Celtic’s part to get this particular matter resolved.

أذل منتخب إنجلترا الأول منافسه إيران بهزيمة بستة أهداف مقابل هدفين في افتتاح مشوارهما في دور المجموعات من بطولة كأس العالم 2022 في قطر.

أقيمت المباراة بين إنجلترا وإيران على ملعب “خليفة الدولي”، وسط حضور جماهيري غفير بقيادة الحكم البرازيلي الدولي، رفائيل كلاوس.

شهدت المباراة تغييرًا مبكرًا لصالح منتخب إيران بسبب إصابة حارسها، علي رضا بيرنفاند، في الأنف، ومشاركة حسين الحسيني بالدقيقة 20، وتوقفت المباراة تقريبًا 14 دقيقة.

He was a flamboyant character who had a varied selection of hairstyles and often bowled in a head-band, but was every effective at the death with his yorkers. Talking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke said that ‘it would be a big, big coup’ if Leeds managed to land Dest over the coming months, believing that he may be a man in demand this summer.

“I can see Leeds monitoring his situation. It would be a big, big coup if they were able to bring him to Elland Road in the summer.

“I’m sure there will be a lot of clubs looking at Dest, who has performed well for the United States over the last couple of years, especially if Barcelona are willing to sell him.”

The Verdict: Interesting…

Raphinha has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, so Leeds could look to enquire over bringing Dest to Yorkshire plus receiving cash in a deal for the Leeds star – it may even give them a head start on other sides looking to sign Dest.

Some supporters may be cautious, though, with Junior Firpo not exactly starring in his first campaign after signing from the Catalan giants last summer.

Dest does look like a promising talent who is also extremely versatile, so a move to link up with fellow countryman Jesse Marsch could be one to watch over the coming months.

The Verdict: Exciting

The fact that the Wearsiders have won the Cup ahead of a club like Man Utd, with the difference in level of resources that they have available that runs through to youth level, is certainly exciting for SAFC and their supporters.

First-team manager Alex Neil will be hoping to see some of these youngsters develop over the next few years to a level that would make him consider them for the senior squad, and the fans will be eager to see more from their homegrown talents.

Nonetheless, this is a victory that the whole club can get behind, and it certainly bodes well for the future, as it seemingly looks like a promising next generation of talent is starting to come through.

The BCCI has asked the IPL’s Kochi franchise owners to register themselves as a company or risk being scrapped. The ultimatum was delivered following the board’s AGM on Wednesday by its president Shashank Manohar, who said the franchise had broken down into two factions that made it difficult for the board to communicate with any one legal entity.”We will issue them a show-cause notice and give them a timeframe that you have to incorporate your company within this timeframe,” Manohar said. “Otherwise we are going to cancel this franchise because we can’t work with groups within a franchise.”He also had strong words for the Punjab and Rajasthan franchises, which, he said, had also been issued notices “for various irregularities committed by them during the period of their contract”.Officials at Punjab and Rajasthan said they would comment only after receiving the notices, while nobody at Kochi was available.Rendezvous Sports World, a consortium of five companies, became the tenth IPL franchise in March after a successful bid of US$333.33m but almost immediately ran into trouble over the composition of its ownership, after the IPL found out that there were a few “secret partners” in the consortium. A reviewed agreement was then signed by both the parties but fresh controversy broke out for Kochi, when Lalit Modi, the then IPL chairman, made the ownership details public on his Twitter feed.Those tweets, ironically, set in motion a chain of events that led to Modi’s own ouster from the IPL. The break-up of the Kochi consortium, according to Modi, included 25% free equity to Rendezvous. “Why is 25% of Kochi team given free to Rendezvous sports for life,” Modi asked. “The same equity is non-dilutable in perpetuity. What does that mean?”Though Modi is no more part of the Indian board or the IPL – his ouster was confirmed today – the BCCI has now assumed the role of interrogator. “The bid was given by individuals who came together and formed a consortium. Now there is no legal entity as such that is incorporated,” Manohar said today. “So we asked them to incorporate a company, a joint venture company and then come to the BCCI. They haven’t incorporated a company and they have a recent dispute between the five persons who are there in the consortium with regards to the shares, sweat equity and other things. Therefore they are not able to resolve those issues. Both the groups have sent letters to the Board saying. ‘Don’t recognise the other group, recognise only me.’ The Board cannot work with such a franchise.”Manohar did not mince words when asked if the BCCI would scrap the franchise if Kochi did not get its act together. “We might play with nine teams or eight teams, we don’t know,” he said.The same fate could await Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, who have been under a cloud since April when the BCCI questioned their ownership pattern in their chargesheet against Modi. At the time the board said it was perturbed by the different ownerships at the two franchises, a stand it apparently has not changed.Asked if there was a definitive deadline by which the three franchises needed to respond, Manohar said it would be soon, because the BCCI wanted to be well prepared for the IPL player auction scheduled for November, which he said would be held in Mumbai. “We will do it immediately because the auctions will come up and before the auctions we have to finalise the action against them. We will take all decisions before that.”
