Eu sou movido a paixões, desafios.

Spurs: Alfie Devine signs new deal

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Alfie Devine has signed a new contract with Antonio Conte’s side.

What’s the latest?

A recent post on the club’s official website revealed that the 18-year-old – who joined in 2020 – has now penned a new deal which will see him remain in north London until at least the summer of 2027.

In the statement, the club wrote: “We are delighted to announce that Alfie Devine has signed a new contract with the club that will run until 2027.”

The new Fernandes

Considering the sheer amount of potential that Devine seems to possess, it is unsurprising to learn that Spurs were keen to tie down the forward-thinking midfielder to a new contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Indeed, the £810k-rated talent has highly impressed over the various youth age groups at Hotspur Way, scoring four goals and registering one assist over his 16 appearances for the under-18s, while bagging 11 goals and providing three assists in 32 games for the under-21s.

This level of form saw Jose Mourinho award the youngster his senior debut while still just 16 years of age, with Devine coming on as a half-time substitute in the 5-0 FA Cup victory over Marine in January 2021, also scoring his first goal for the club in the same match.

Indeed, the Portuguese manager appeared to be a big fan of the teenager, with The Athletic revealing last year that the 59-year-old informed Devine that he saw shades of Bruno Fernandes in his game.

Considering that the Manchester United playmaker has scored 51 goals and registered 40 assists in 132 appearances since joining the Red Devils in January 2020, that is quite the compliment from Mourinho.

Furthermore, coach and analyst Harry Brooks also seems to have extremely high hopes for the 18-year-old’s future in the professional game, stating of the midfielder (via The Athletic): “He’s such an all-rounder, a fantastic footballer. He’s just the whole package.

“The talent, the attitude, the ability to always turn it on. The tenacity, the aggression. When it comes to looking at that whole picture, he’s the best player in the academy. He could play for England one day.”

While Devine certainly has a great deal of work to do before he can truly be compared to the £103m-rated Fernandes, it would appear as if the 18-year-old is on the right track to one day emulating the Portugal international’s returns in the top flight. That prospect is sure to be incredibly tantalising for both Conte and Spurs supporters alike.

Manchester United: Big Cristiano Ronaldo transfer claim

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo may remain at the centre of a transfer saga, even though the market has closed until January.

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who was speaking to GiveMeSport.

The lowdown

The 37-year-old tried to secure a move away from United this summer because he wanted to play in the Champions League rather than the Europa League. However, Erik ten Hag was adamant that the Portuguese veteran would remain at the club, and the Red Devils held firm in their stance.

The contract that Ronaldo signed on his return to Old Trafford a year ago expires at the end of the season, but United have the option to extend it by a further year.

The latest

While some United fans may have been breathing a sigh of relief that the ‘Ronaldo situation’ will no longer be a headline with the transfer window now closed, Jones has issued a warning that it might not go away just yet.

He told GiveMeSport: “We’ll have to wait and see on the Ronaldo situation. Although he has stayed, I can see that the story could somehow still continue beyond the transfer window.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-updates-5/” title=”Latest Man Utd updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The verdict

This is a worrying claim for United supporters.

Ten Hag is starting to build some momentum on the pitch, having overseen four consecutive Premier League victories in response to a disastrous start to the campaign.

However, if Ronaldo – the highest earner at the club on £515,000 per week and their highest-profile player by social media followers – agitates to leave, it could create an unhelpful distraction. Indeed, there have already been reports that some United players and staff are losing patience with the ‘moody’ forward.

There’s a possibility that Ten Hag’s management of Ronaldo might only exacerbate the issue. The 37-year-old has been named amongst the substitutes for the past four Premier League matches, and if this trend continues, he may become even more unhappy at Old Trafford.

Newcastle: Botman could help to unlock Isak

Newcastle United’s winless run in the Premier League was extended to six matches as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth last weekend.

The Magpies have not won in the top flight since the opening day of the season against Nottingham Forest and Eddie Howe picked out the lack of service to Alexander Isak as one of the reasons behind their latest draw.

He said: “Again, there were flashes from him, but I don’t think, as a team, we did well enough to get him into goalscoring positions. We didn’t feed him the ball early enough. He was a little bit isolated.”

Newcastle struggled to find him in the right areas as their build-up lacked pace and direction, which is a problem the manager will need to solve ahead of their clash with Fulham.

One way in which he can help to unlock the Sweden international, who was described as a “unicorn” by Radio presenter Kev Lawson, is by unleashing Sven Botman from the start.

The £18k-per-week enforcer was left on the bench against the Cherries as Dan Burn started ahead of him. Explaining the decision after the game, Howe said:

“We managed their load in the week where we had three games (against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers), so today was bringing Dan back. I just feel his leadership skills and his experience, we need that in our team at the moment.

“Sven’s going to be an outstanding player, and will play many, many games for this club. We love him to bits, but Dan just gets the nod at the moment.”

Playing the ex-Brighton man ahead of Botman weakens Newcastle’s play in possession of the ball as the Dutchman is more adept at playing out from the back.

Botman, who Josh Bunting has described as “dominant” and “powerful”, ranks in a higher percentile than Burn in pass accuracy, progressive carries, progressive passes, total passing distance, xG assisted, and progressive passing distance per 90 among centre-backs in Europe’s top five leagues over the past 365 days.

This shows that the former Lille defender is more forward-thinking and accomplished in his passing, as he progresses his team up the pitch more effectively than the Englishman.

A good example of his ability on the ball came in the recent 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace as Botman’s play out from the back helped Isak to get involved in the game. His composed pass between the lines (2:30) to the striker found him in space in the second half and he was unlucky not to register an assist as Joe Willock’s shot was brilliantly saved by Vincente Guaita.

Isak was afforded two ‘big chances’ in the match and, whilst he did not score, this highlights how the team’s build-up gave him more opportunities going forward.

Botman’s passing between the lines and progressive carries can get players into good positions in midfield, whether that is the former Real Sociedad man or a midfielder who can then play a killer ball to the striker. This is why unleashing him from the start ahead of Burn could help to unlock Isak’s full potential at St. James’ Park.

Transfer insider talks up Rice to Man Utd

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, it would ‘change everything’ at Manchester United if the club were able to secure the signing of West Ham star Declan Rice this summer.

The Lowdown: United changes imminent

The Red Devils will now miss out on a top-four finish and a place in the Champions League next season following a number of disappointing results under both former manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer and his temporary replacement Ralf Rangnick.

With the arrival of new permanent boss Erik ten Hag imminent though, it appears that plenty of changes are expected to take place at Old Trafford as the Dutchman looks to build his own squad ahead of the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

In a report by ESPN, it’s claimed that a new central midfielder has been identified as a key area for improvement by the hierarchy, and after being consistently linked with Rice in recent weeks, United could well be tempted to make a move for the maestro.

The Latest: Jones backs Rice move

Despite being wary of financial demands, Jones has admitted that he thinks the 23-year-old could be the perfect candidate to transform the club’s current problems. He told GiveMeSport:

“They’ve got to be careful about the budget because they don’t have hundreds of millions to just go and spend.

“Declan Rice, for me, is the one that would change everything. I think that he wants to move, he’s ambitious, he’s young, and he would be a leader.”

The Verdict: Standout performer

The 29-cap international is a huge fan favourite at the London Stadium and it’s no surprise to see why, considering he’s made 193 senior club appearances in all competitions so far, scoring ten goals and registering nine assists during that time, as per Transfermarkt.

Rice, who was once hailed as a “superb” player by Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard, currently averages 2.1 tackles per Premier League game and has a pass success rate of 91.6%, via WhoScored, displaying both fighting spirit and an ability to control a game from the middle of the park.

The Kingston-born talent is clearly admired by David Moyes, who is said to have valued his star man at more than a staggering £150m, but whether this is a fee that United would be willing to pay or not, his services on the field are something that would definitely be seen as an upgrade, should ten Hag pursuit his highly sought-after transfer target.

In other news… a BBC Radio 5 Live pundit has dropped a huge transfer claim surrounding the future of one of United’s stars.

Liverpool ‘really like’ Aurelien Tchouameni

Liverpool ‘really like’ rumoured transfer target Aurelien Tchouameni ahead of a potential summer move, according to journalist James Pearce.

The Lowdown: Tchouameni a primary target for LFC

The Reds will likely be looking to strengthen their midfield options next season, with several players now in their 30s and fresh blood perhaps required.

It looks as though Tchouameni is Liverpool’s primary target in that area of the pitch, with the 22-year-old looking like a player with enormous potential.

He scored twice in Monaco’s 2-1 win away to Lille on Friday night and has averaged 2.5 tackles and 2.9 interceptions per game in Ligue 1 this season. For context, no current Anfield player can match Tchouameni for either of those statistics in 2021/22.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-31/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Pearce makes Tchouameni claim

Speaking in a Q&A for The Athletic on Saturday, Pearce reaffirmed Liverpool’s interest in Tchouameni, although he warned that the Reds could be priced out of a move amid competition from elsewhere.

In response to a reader enquiring about the links with the Monaco gem, the journalist stated:

“Yeah Liverpool really like him. Big talent. But price tag could be an issue and Real Madrid also very keen. Be interesting to see what happens with that one.”

The Verdict: Perfect summer signing

Tchouameni really does look tailor-made to excel in this Liverpool side, possessing all the technical and physical attributes required to thrive under Jurgen Klopp, as suggested by his aforementioned performance figures.

Jordan Henderson is showing his age a little these days, while Naby Keita is still arguably a little hit-and-miss in terms of form, so finding a third regular starter alongside Fabinho and Thiago is crucial.

Tchouameni could be that man, already becoming such a force for Monaco and looking like he could take the Premier League by storm too.

Spiers bemoans decline of Boly

Tim Spiers bemoaned the decline of Willy Boly in Wolves’ 1-1 draw at home to Norwich City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Wolves taking on Norwich

Bruno Lage’s men hosted the already-relegated Canaries at Molineux in what was their final home game of what has ultimately been a positive season overall.

Wolves were disappointing on the day, though, falling behind to Teemu Pukki’s first-half strike before equalising through Rayan Ait-Nouri after the interval.

Their hopes of sealing European football are now over for another year, with the season ultimately fizzling out a little.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/all-the-latest-from-wolves-6/” title=”All the latest from Wolves!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Spiers bemoans Boly decline

Taking to Twitter during the match, Spiers rued Boly’s drop-off in pace and performance levels, with the centre-back not looking like the same player after a litany of injury woe.

The journalist tweeted: “Sad seeing Boly turned and beaten so easily. Was similar against Brighton too. Lost half a yard since his succession of injuries probably? Been a really tough couple of years for him.”

[freshpress-poll id=“388780″]

The Verdict: Time to move on?

Sad as it may be to accept, Boly is not the force he once was; and with his current deal expiring in 2023, he could be available on a Bosman over the coming months unless a new deal is negotiated.

He has only managed eight league appearances this season, compared to 21 and 22 in the two previous campaigns respectively, with injuries affecting him badly. Also, as per WhoScored, his performance levels this term illustrate his decline, with a 6.53 rating in the current campaign compared to 6.75 last season and 7.19 in 2019/20.

If they allow his contract to run down, he will then be able to eventually leave on a free transfer, so the Old Gold Wanderers run the risk of blowing the opportunity to receive a fee for him.

Boly should always be remembered as a great servant, though, having racked up almost 150 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals for good measure.

Rangers: Hutton makes Kamara claim

Rangers could be set to receive a substantial fee should they decide to sell midfielder Glen Kamara this summer, according to former Scotland defender Alan Hutton.

The lowdown: Agreement in place

This comes following an initial report from Football Insider claiming that the Ibrox club are ‘willing to listen to offers’ for Kamara during the upcoming transfer window.

It was claimed that ‘sources’ close to the Teddy Bears have confirmed that there is an ‘agreement’ between the club and the 26-year-old that a move will materialise at a certain price after Aston Villa were previously linked when Steven Gerrard took the Premier League job.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Now, as the end of the season fast approaches, one heavily connected Gers man has had his say…

The latest: Hutton makes ‘huge’ claim

Speaking to Football Insider, regular Rangers TV pundit Hutton has outlined what it would take to prize Kamara away this summer, calling his initial move to Ibrox ‘laughable’.

The 37-year-old said: “As important to the club as he is, I think it has to be £10million, round about that. Some people might think that’s huge, but in terms of what it gives to the team and what it has done, he’s pivotal to what Rangers do.

“He has had times where he’s been a little bit up and down and started from the bench. But every time he comes on he proves his worth to the team. I think £10million is a good number, in my opinion. Especially in today’s market, if you look Nathan Patterson going for £16million. I know there’s a lot of potential there but we’re talking about a ready-made midfielder.

“He’s played at a high level already and Rangers did excellently well to get him for £50,000. An absolute steal, it’s laughable to see what he’s turned into. He’s only going to get better, he’s still a good age so definitely around that mark.”

The verdict: Big decision looms

Having missed out on an automatic place in next season’s UEFA Champions League group stages, the Light Blues hierarchy may look to make up some of the financial shortfalls with major player sales such as Kamara.

However, having scored four times and provided five assists in 51 appearances this season, featuring in 78 minutes per Scottish Premiership game on average (Sofascore), the Finland international remains just so integral to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side and therefore should only be sold at the very top of his valuation.

Under contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), there is certainly no rush to cash in on the 42-cap ace and as such Rangers can afford to hold out for at least Hutton’s mooted £10million asking price.

In other news, find out what ‘massive blow’ Rangers have now been dealt here!

Liverpool plot move for Jarrod Bowen

Liverpool have reportedly held a long term interest in West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen, and now a new update has emerged on the club’s intentions to make a move for the player this summer.

What’s the latest?

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Liverpool are “keeping an eye” on Bowen ahead of the summer transfer window.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Right now, it will be Declan Rice that gets all the transfer headlines, but Liverpool have been linked with Jarrod Bowen in the last year and they’re keeping an eye on that situation and I think other clubs in the top four or five would like to have him in their squad going forward.”

Klopp loves him

The signing of Bowen has been one that has been highly anticipated for a long time with the player linked to Liverpool back in the summer transfer window last year, and since then the player has only got better following an impressive season with the Hammers.

The 25-year-old star has scored 18 goals and contributed 13 assists in all competitions, with a goal involvement every 131 minutes which is an incredible attacking output that would put him in a position to compete for a spot in the Liverpool team, with a better G/A than Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota this season in fewer appearances.

His talent has not gone unnoticed by the Reds boss who holds Bowen in high regard praising him when given the opportunity to in a pre-match press conference when Liverpool played West Ham earlier this season.

Klopp told the press (via Mirror Online): “Bowen, what a player he became.

“He was at Hull as well but I don’t think anybody expected this kind of jump. Unbelievable player.”

With that in mind, the German coach would surely love to sign him in the future.

It is unlikely that the player’s current club would be happy to let Bowen leave for a reasonable amount as he has been a key player for him over the last few seasons, and reports suggest Liverpool would need to pay somewhere in the region of £75m.

Ultimately, at the moment it would be hard to see how Bowen could fit into the already heavily rotated forward line after the signing of Luis Diaz in January, but if he was to sign for the Kopites it would be a huge coup for Klopp and could add even more strength to an already dominating attacking threat on Merseyside.
