Newcastle transfer news on Diaby

Reliable journalist Ryan Taylor has now shares some big transfer news on reported Newcastle United target Moussa Diaby.

The Lowdown: Diaby eyed

It has been widely reported that the St. James’ Park outfit are eyeing up a potential move for Diaby this summer.

It is certainly no surprise to see the interest given the season that he has had at Bayer Leverkusen, where he managed to score no fewer than 17 goals and supply a further 14 assists in total across all competitions, mainly operating from the flanks (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Not for sale

Taking to Twitter, Taylor has revealed that Diaby is ‘not for sale’ after talking to Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes:

“Sat down with Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes, who told me NUFC target Moussa Diaby is not for sale.”

The Daily Express journalist shared the following comments made by Rolfes when asked if Diaby could leave:

“We want to keep Moussa for as long as possible. We have no offers & aren’t looking for them at the moment.”

The Verdict: Big blow

It would be a big blow if the North East club were to miss out on signing Diaby this summer.

Morade Djeddi, the president of his first club Esperance Paris 19e, has claimed that the France international has a ‘supernatural, divine gift’, evidenced by his form in front of goal.

He has been praised by German media for his ‘amazing’ dribbling, ‘irresistible’ pace and ‘astonishing’ speed of thought, and was even dubbed ‘unstoppable’ after scoring one goal and setting up another in a crushing 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach (Bundesliga).

Diaby and Allan Saint-Maximin could form a quite deadly duo on either wing for the Magpies, but it looks like this is one PIF will have to re-visit some time in the future.

Everton: Toffees among Mavididi suitors

Everton are among the clubs interested in signing Montpellier forward Stephy Mavididi this summer, according to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The lowdown: An interesting rise

Born in Derby, Mavididi started out at Southend before emerging through the youth ranks at Arsenal and appearing to be on a pathway to stardom.

Following loan spells at Charlton and Preston, the prolific former England youth international made a sensational move to Italian giants Juventus.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-5/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Having failed to make the grade in Turin however, the speedy 24-year-old moved to Montpellier in 2020, where he has been reborn once again.

The latest: Toffees named

Taking to Twitter, Romano outlined a range of possible destinations for Mavididi in the upcoming summer transfer window.

He said: “Stephy Mavididi could leave Montpellier this summer. Many clubs have approached his agents including West Ham, Brighton, Southampton, Everton and OM. Deal still at early stages but there are good chances for Mavididi to make his move in the coming weeks.”

The verdict: Direct replacement?

As reports continue to link Blues’ star Richarlison with a move away from Goodison Park, capable of playing as a left-winger and as a centre-forward, Mavididi could be considered the ideal like for like replacement for Frank Lampard’s squad.

During 2021/22, the man hailed for a ‘brilliant’ goal against AS Monaco in January by journalist Andy Brassell netted eight goals and provided three assists in 30 league outings.

Sharing similar stylistic traits to skilful operators such as West Ham ace Said Benrahma and Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan (Fbref), Mavididi mightn’t possess the dynamism and tenacity of Richarlison but nevertheless could provide a different type of potency to what was a lacklustre Everton attack at times last term.

Crystal Palace eye Man United duo

Crystal Palace have looked into possible summer swoops for Manchester United duo Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek, according to transer insider Dean Jones.

The lowdown

The English right-back came through the youth ranks at Selhurst Park, playing 46 times for the south London club and winning their Player of the Year award in 2018/19.

In 2019, United shelled out up to £50m to snap him up, making him the third most-expensive full-back in the history of the Premier League.

However, after featuring in the 2020/21 Europa League Squad of the Season, Wan-Bissaka has fallen down the Red Devils’ pecking order more recently, starting just six Premier League matches since the turn of the year.

Meanwhile, Van de Beek spent the latter half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Everton after playing a mere 68 top-flight minutes between August and January.

The latest

Writing for GiveMeSport, Jones insisted that there is a ‘genuine feeling’ that Wan-Bissaka could return to Selhurst Park this summer, following recent transfer links touting him to go back to Palace. Palace wouldn’t be able to afford a permanent deal for the 24-year-old right now but could sign him on loan initially.

Elsewhere, the club’s recruitment team have ‘explored’ the possibility of signing Van de Beek, although the expectation at this point is that he will stay at Old Trafford and reunite with his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

The verdict

The £27m-rated Wan-Bissaka appears to be the more realistic signing of the United duo, but should Palace fans be excited about a potential second coming?

The 24-year-old’s offerings going forward are limited, with just two goals and 10 assists to his name after 126 appearances for the Red Devils.

However, he is regarded as a rock-solid defender in one-v-one situations, with team-mate Luke Shaw and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher hailing him as the best in the world in that department, so it may all depend on what Patrick Vieira wants from his full-backs.

If the Frenchman’s priority is defensive security while other players in the team take on the creative responsibility, then Wan-Bissaka – who Jermaine Jenas claimed ‘must be so annoying to play against’ because his ‘legs are everywhere’ – is the man to target this summer.

Furthermore, with Van de Beek also struggling for game-time on loan at Everton after an injury-plagued spell, there may be some reservations about Palace possibly signing the Dutchman.

In other news, another target for Vieira has emerged.

Leeds: Orta interested in Garner

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring James Garner to Elland Road in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Sun, who claim that, following an extremely impressive season-long loan at Nottingham Forest, Victor Orta is now keeping a very close eye on the situation of the Manchester United central midfielder ahead of a potential move for the 21-year-old in the summer market.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

The report goes on to state that Leicester City, Everton and Southampton are also interested in the England U21 international, with the youngster’s long-term future at Old Trafford looking to be rather uncertain following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils’ new manager.

“Absolute beauty”

With the signing of a new central midfielder reported to be one of Leeds’ priority targets in the summer transfer window, it is not difficult to understand why Jesse Marsch and Orta would be interested in a deal to bring Garner to LS11 ahead of the Whites’ 2022/23 campaign.

Indeed, over his 44 Championship appearances this season, the £6.3m-rated talent was in breathtaking form in the heart of the Forest side, scoring four goals, registering eight assists and creating seven big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.1 shots and making 2.0 key passes per game.

The £20k-per-week midfielder also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making an average of 1.9 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.5 long balls, 34.0 passes and winning 3.9 duels – at a success rate of 53% – per fixture.

These returns saw the 21-year-old who Martin Keown dubbed an “absolutely beauty” and Josh Wright labelled “unreal” average a quite extraordinary WhoScored match rating of 7.09, ranking him as Steve Cooper’s fifth-best performer in the second tier – playing a key role in the Reds going on to secure promotion to the Premier League.

As such, it is clear to see that Garner would be an exceptional signing for Orta to get over the line this summer, however, with a number of top-flight clubs interested in the youngster’s services, the Spaniard must act fast if Leeds are to have any chance of securing a deal for the midfielder in the coming weeks.

Leeds: Hay drops Garner transfer claim

Phil Hay has dropped an update on reported Leeds United transfer target James Garner.

What’s the talk?

In recent comments made on The Phil Hay Show, the titular journalist revealed that he has been told the Nottingham Forest loanee is a player on Victor Orta’s list of summer transfer targets.

Previous reports have suggested that Manchester United – the defensive midfielder’s parent club – could be willing to sanction the 21-year-old’s departure in the coming months, as Erik ten Hag is targeting the signing of a player in the England U21 international’s position this summer – with Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips thought to be a £60m option for the Dutchman.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Regarding the Whites’ interest in the youngster, Hay said: “James Garner, who’s been at Forest on loan from Man United, is somebody who’s been mentioned to me a couple of times as somebody they’d like.”

Supporters will love Hay’s claim

Considering just how exciting a prospect Garner quite clearly is, in addition to the fact that Phillips has been heavily linked with a big-money move away from Elland Road this summer, it is easy to see why Orta would be interested in a move for the 21-year-old ahead of the club’s 2022/23 campaign.

Indeed, over his 41 Championship appearances this season, the £6.3m-rated talent has been in exceptional form for Steve Cooper’s side, scoring four goals, registering eight assists and creating seven big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.1 shots and making 2.0 key passes per game.

The £20k-per-week midfielder has also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making an average of 1.4 interceptions, 1.8 tackles, 0.9 clearances and winning 3.9 duels – at a success rate of 53% – per fixture.

These returns have seen the player who Trevor Sinclair compared to David Beckham average a quite astonishing SofaScore match rating of 7.26, not only ranking him as the Reds’ best performer in the second tier but also as the joint third-best player in the division as a whole.

As such, it is abundantly clear to see just how impressive a signing the 21-year-old would be for Orta to secure for Leeds this summer, leading us to believe that Hay’s claim concerning the Whites’ interest in the midfielder will be an update that the Elland Road faithful will love.

Newcastle set to sell Dwight Gayle

A big claim has been made on Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle’s future heading into the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has revealed that the £10m signing from Crystal Palace in 2016 will leave the club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Dwight Gayle will go in the summer, and then if he wants three strikers, you’d have Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and then another coming in and then maybe even a fourth who can play off one of the wings, but I think he’d be an option, a good option to have off the bench.”

Eddie Howe will be delighted

The Toon manager will be delighted with the news that Gayle will be on his way out of St. James’ Park in the coming months. He is wasting a space in the squad because he has had a minimal impact on the pitch throughout the campaign and it is the right time for him to depart.

In eight Premier League appearances this season, the striker has accrued just 30 minutes of action and this indicates that Howe does not trust him to play a significant portion of games. He has not shown the head coach that he offers enough on the pitch to justify regular game time and his situation seems unlikely to change as he turns 33 later this year.

Noel Whelan claimed it was “bewildering” when he was given a new deal last year and cited Steve Bruce’s potential exit as one of the reasons why it was a strange decision. Of course, the current West Brom manager was relieved of his duties later in the year and now Howe has been left to deal with the ramifications of that call.

His previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2021 and these fresh terms take him through to the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

He has one goal in his 26 top-flight outings since the start of last season and five goals in his last 46 games for the Magpies in the Premier League, illustrating just how baffling the decision to extend his deal was.

This is why Howe will be buzzing to axe Gayle from his squad this summer as he will be able to recoup some money for his services and replace him with a player who can have more of an impact on the pitch for the club.

No Rangers beamback for Europa final

Graham Spiers has been left stunned by some news that has now emerged from Glasgow Rangers.

The Lowdown: No beamback

As shared by The Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane, Ibrox managing director Stewart Robertson has claimed that it is ‘very unlikely’ that a beamback will be run for their UEFA Europa League final against Frankfurt, as most of the staff are going to be in Seville.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He added that he simply does not think it would be ‘physically possible’.

The Latest: Spiers stunned

Taking to Twitter, Scottish football journalist Spiers was left stunned by Robertson’s news, claiming that it is ‘hard to believe’ and a ‘really bad call’ from the Teddy Bears:

“This is a really bad call by Rangers. Surely to goodness the club can sort a ‘live feed’ to fans back at Ibrox? Are there seriously no technicians or sparkies available to do it? Hard to believe.”

The Verdict: Disappointing

It is certainly disappointing to hear that there will be no beamback for the supporters unable to get to Seville, in what is one of their biggest games in their history.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team have done so well to get to the final, knocking out the likes of Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig in the process, and it would be a quite remarkable achievement should they go on and win the competition.

Nonetheless, this is a once in a lifetime chance for some fans to see their team in a major European final, and so they would all want to be together with friends and family to watch the match together.

Rangers: Roofe injury news emerges

Rangers striker Kemar Roofe is battling hard to be fit for the Europa League final.

The lowdown

Rangers are due to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Seville showpiece in just eight days time. It’s a monumental fixture for the club, who haven’t featured in a European final since 2008 and have never won a continental competition.

Roofe hasn’t featured since the the 2-1 Scottish Cup semifinal victory over Celtic on 17 April.

He missed both legs of the Europa League semifinal against RB Leipzig through injury and has also been sidelined for the last three league matches.

Significantly, Rangers are also without another of their no. 9 options in Alfredo Morelos, whose season is already over because of a thigh problem.

Van Bronckhorst has, then, been providing regular updates on his fitness, with everyone around the club surely anxious to see if he’ll be available.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The latest

Rangers Review journalist Joshua Barrie, who’s also a contributor for Sky Sports News, relayed an update from GvB on Roofe’s fitness.

The striker ‘will push himself to be fit’ for the final because ‘all he wants’ is to feature.

What’s more, the club’s ‘medical staff will work hard’ to try to ensure that he’s ‘ready’.

The verdict

To make matters worse for Van Bronckhorst, stand-in no. 9 Joe Aribo suffered a head injury in the semifinal second leg against Leipzig.

Journalist Andrew Dickson says that Aribo could miss the clash with Frankfurt if he sustained a concussion.

The Nigerian played no part in the weekend victory over Dundee United, so it remains to be seen what kind of condition he’s in.

It could yet fall to Fashion Sakala to lead the line, and that would probably generate a mixed reaction.

The 25-year-old has bagged 11 goals this season, but some journalists have raised concerns about his all-round game.

Wolves: Wanderers eyeing O’Brien swoop

Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the clubs interested in signing Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

The lowdown: Ruben Neves successor?

The 23-year-old central midfielder has amassed 174 career club appearances across spells at Huddersfield and a loan stint at Barnsley and could be ready for a step up to the Premier League.

Such a step could be forthcoming in one-way shape or form as the Yorkshire club embark on a Championship play-off semi-final clash with Luton Town for a shot at promotion.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/all-the-latest-from-wolves-6/” title=”All the latest from Wolves!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

However, with talismanic Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves heavily linked with a move out of Molineux this summer, Bruno Lage may already have pinpointed a possible successor…

The latest: Wolves ‘keen’

As per the report from TEAMtalk, Wolves, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Brighton and Southampton are all ‘keen’ on O’Brien.

It’s claimed that the Midlands outfit could land the man described as an ‘exceptional player’ by Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan owing to his supreme versatility by triggering a £12million release clause.

Furthermore, the report states that the future of O’Brien ‘could depend’ on the ongoing promotion bid as it is ‘highly unlikely’ the Englishman stays at the club should they fall short.

The verdict: Bargain fee

Albeit unproven at the Premier League level, O’Brien has forged a stellar second-tier career and this season earned a superb 7.00 average Sofascore rating whilst completing 2.0 successful dribbles, winning 7.5 of his duels and making 2.2 tackles on average per game – evidence of a well-rounded overall midfield package.

Under contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), the opportunity to sign the workmanlike midfielder for the mooted £12million release clause is one the Wolves hierarchy shouldn’t pass up.

Whether or not Lage and co can persuade Neves to stay at Molineux beyond this summer remains to be seen, however, the club would be wise to make a move for O’Brien either as a provision or even as a future successor to Joao Moutinho.

Celtic tipped to sign a striker this summer

Celtic could look to sign a striker in the summer transfer window even though it isn’t a ‘priority’, according to journalist Anthony Joseph.

The Lowdown: Busy summer ahead for Celtic?

The Hoops are on the verge of regaining the Premiership title this season but Ange Postecoglou probably won’t be resting on his laurels moving forward.

He will surely want to keep improving his squad in the coming years, especially with Champions League football likely to come to Parkhead in 2022/23.

An update has now emerged regarding the possibility of Celtic strengthening in one particular position in the summer transfer window.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates-4/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Joseph makes Celtic transfer claim

Taking to Twitter, Joseph hinted that signings a striker will be on the agenda for Celtic, as Postecoglou looks to add more firepower to his squad. The journalist claimed:

“I’d imagine they’ll be looking for a striker in the summer… unless Albian Ajeti bursts back onto the scene AND Ange Postecoglou sees Daizen Maeda as a striker long-term. Not a priority, though.”

The Verdict: Makes sense

As Joseph alludes to, it isn’t necessarily essential that a new striker comes in at Parkhead this summer. It certainly wouldn’t go amiss, though, with any team surely grateful to have a dependable goalscorer to call upon.

Liel Abada (10) is the only Celtic player to reach double figures in the league this season, and while the goals have been shared out healthily, bringing in a player who routinely breaks the 20-goal barrier in a campaign could take them up another level.

Whether Postecoglou actually pushes the boat out to sign a striker remains to be seen, though, with Joseph saying that it isn’t a priority and the manager perhaps believing that the transfer budget could be focused on strengthening other parts of the squad.
